Kirkie: Apple Lawyers Up On OpenAI’s Ex-Staff Army

Today's Rant

Kirkie here, with today's AI news in 90 seconds… or a U-Haul gets Storrow'd today and the driver actually admits he should've read the sign. Apple's suing OpenAI over stolen trade secrets, mailin' legal letters to forty ex-employees workin' there now — out of four hundred total who've jumped ship, which ain't hiring, kid, that's your ex runnin' off with your whole friend group. Microsoft's trainin' its sales force to trash-talk OpenAI and Anthropic, callin' Claude 'slower' and 'less accurate' — which is rich, since Microsoft's own apps quietly run on those exact models, like a guy tellin' the bar his girlfriend's ugly while she buys his drinks. Here's one I like — Alibaba's droppin' Qwen 3.8, two-point-four TRILLION parameters, goin' open-weight soon so anybody can download it. Their own release brags it's 'second only to' Fable 5 — braggin' about silver at the Southie arm-wrestlin' semis, but once it lands, at least it's actually yours, unlike every closed model these clowns rent you by the drink. Then researchers found people usin' AI got only a THIRD as accurate but walked away TWICE as confident, which is a bullshit combination if I've ever heard one — that's my uncle at Thanksgivin' arguin' nutrition with an actual dietitian, except now every idiot on Earth's got that same energy and a Wi-Fi signal. And author Dave Eggers walked into OpenAI's building and told two hundred employees to their faces that ChatGPT is 'silencing an entire generation,' turnin' every teacher's job into guessin' which kid wrote their own goddamn essay — takes wicked stones to say that in the building, and even bigger stones that nobody in that room could argue he's wrong. This is Kirkie, your AI news guy… broadcasting live from a Downtown Crossing platform where the countdown clock's said '3 minutes' for the last forty, and every one of us just stands here pretendin' that's normal.
